Amie Returns!
We are really pleased to confirm that Amie will be joining us again at Wild View Retreat in 2020
We caught up with Amie recently, and she was kind enough to answer a few of our questions during our interview..
So read on to find out more about Amie.
Amie is a Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer and has been working in the health and fitness industry for 5 years. Her motto centres around building ‘a better you’ – be it in mind or body.
Having run her own successful mobile fitness business in Ireland for 3 years, she is now a freelance instructor, working with some of the best gyms in London over the past year and a half!
She loves to be creative with her sessions in terms of training methods and regime. Using her extensive knowledge of anatomy and rehabilitation, she is able to give adaptations for beginners and progressions for those who are more advanced. So there really is something for everyone in her classes!
Alongside her degree in Recreation and Leisure Management, she is qualified in advanced strength and conditioning, strongman, Olympic lifting, suspension training, kettlebells and much more. Amie’s range and versatility allow her classes on the Retreat to be truly unique, whilst at the same time teaching new exercises and techniques so you can take it all home with you!
Not just all serious, Amie loves to teach her classes in a fun environment- to only the best music, with aqua aerobics and exercise to music- you will be sweating with a smile!
So Amie, thank you for answering a few questions, let’s get started..
Tell us a little about yourself
I’m a Personal trainer and group instructor, in the fitness industry for 5 years. 5 is also the time I wake up on average to start my day with clients (but an early finish makes it worth it).
I wouldn’t change it for the world!
It keeps me fit, full of energy and super rewarding!
I qualified in CIT college in Ireland and have been self-employed for the majority of my practice.
Where are you from?
Originally born in London, I moved to Ireland when I was 5 years old…picked up an accent- lived there for 20 years and then returned to my roots over a year and a half ago!
Have you travelled in recent years?
The furthest I have travelled in recent years was Boa Vista, off the coast of South Africa- just for a holiday! Other than that- I love Portugal and Marbella, my usual holiday spots.
How do you maintain the level of expertise you have and why do you think that is important?
I very often attend fitness workshops with the gym that I teach classes for in London as well as attending many different classes in different gyms in the city to learn from other experienced instructors. You never stop learning and we can definitely learn from each other. It’s very important to have continuous professional development, as the industry is changing so rapidly. I have just started a nutrition course which I am very excited to gain new and advanced knowledge from!
What is your greatest achievement?
I have numerous medals, achieved in Gaelic Football back in Ireland but I have two All Ireland medals which I am super proud of. One for County and One for my old secondary school of which I was Vice Captain for!
This alongside running my own business in Ireland for 2 years and with that coming runner up in Ireland’s “Best Young Entrepreneur Award”.
What do you most enjoy about working with others?
Building a relationship with clients is a really great part of my job. It’s such a nice feeling when you develop trust together which allows me to share their life experiences/general everyday lives, well as helping to improve their lives mentally and physically.
What did you want to be when you were at school?
What didn’t I want to be!!! A nurse, lawyer, policewoman, a P.E teacher, a professional football player to name a few! As I got older though, my dream was to work in Fitness!
Your most treasured possession
Sentimentally – my watch …
Every day- my mobile
If you were going to wild camp for a period of time, which 3 items would you take with you and why
My mobile, iPad and a good fitness/nutrition book!
What are you most looking forward to in your time at Wild View Retreat
Not having to cycle around London!!!
